Another episode in TCOTS’s ongoing series that aims to show why Willard Mitt Romney must not be allowed to receive the Republican Nomination for President…
-Smitty makes some very good points in his look at the Romney Campaign’s deceptive quoting of Little Barry in it’s latest ad:
One is tempted to think that the kerfuffle over the quotation sourcing was a test on the part of the Romney campaign which the Obama campaign is failing. More attention is drawn to the ad, and the catastrophic absurdity of this administration by pointing out the dodgy choice of quotation. Anyone who has read the Obamateurism posts at Hot Air knows that, if we had $100 for every time that #OccupyResoluteDesk had said the kind of thing for which we’ve seen Herman Cain pilloried, neither the deficit nor the debt would be of particular concern.
Unfortunately for Mitt, the air of inevitability, the slick soundbites, the centrist posturing, and the media echoes coming from their location in the tank trigger associations with none other than BHO’s 2008 campaign. “Repeal ObamaCare” looks good on a bumper sticker, but if the motive for doing so isn’t founded in a sincere desire to go after federal entitlements hammer and tongs, then we can expect the bad ideas informing both RomneyCare and ObamaCare to return like a communicable disease in an ObamaVille.
What is needed perhaps, is someone who has some experience, yet runs with more of and outsider feel. Someone with character as impeccable as Romney, but who manages not to exude the Ruling Class smarminess. Who doesn’t sound like a condescending Tom Brokaw acolyte when he speaks. Who is not running a ball-control offense campaign, as if winning means avoiding mistakes…
I would only dispute Smitty’s belief in the impeccability of Mr. Romney’s character. While it appears that he has led an exemplary private life, it seems pretty damn clear that his public career as been just one big pander for the purposes of gaining office. That speaks to a fatal flaw in his character.
-Speaking of Mitt’s character: last week over at National Review Online, Katrina Trinko quoted this from a Boston Globe story:
Just before Mitt Romney left the Massachusetts governor’s office and first ran for president, 11 of his top aides purchased their state-issued computer hard drives, and the Romney administration’s e-mails were all wiped from a server, according to interviews and records obtained by the Globe. …
As a result, [Massachusetts (G)overnor Deval] Patrick’s office, which has been bombarded with inquiries for records from the Romney era, has no electronic record of any Romney administration e-mails, Reilly said.
-Speaking of Mitt’s character and Romneycare, Miss Trinko reported this a short time later [worth quoting in full]:
Jonathan Gruber, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor who advised both Mitt Romney and President Obama on the construction of their health-care programs, is irritated that Romney is trying to draw distinctions between the two programs on the campaign trail.
“The problem is there is no way to say that,” Gruber told Capital New York. “Because they’re the same f***ing bill. He just can’t have his cake and eat it too. Basically, you know, it’s the same bill. He can try to draw distinctions and stuff, but he’s just lying. The only big difference is he didn’t have to pay for his. Because the federal government paid for it. Where at the federal level, we have to pay for it, so we have to raise taxes.”
-The man is shameless.
